What a wonderful role model, Dr. Michelle King!!!! She was truly the best pick for Superintendent in 2017 She was... What many of us were, a student, a teacher, and a leader...She really embodied the characteristics that our district should honor when selecting a NEW Superintendent.

Why seek personnel outside of our district to fulfill the most important office in our Distirct. There are many of us that are ready to embrace this leadership challenge!! This job needs to go to someone like Dr. King... a student, a parent, a teacher, and a leader for the people!!

I echo your sentiments, Claudia! I participated in the search for the qualities of the new superintendent that the district held after the fiasco of Deasy when they held them at school auditoriums around our beautiful city. I knew they finally got it right when Dr. King took over. I was so saddened to hear that someone who was truly taking her job seriously to help all Los Angeles students had to retire. That same policy of coming back to those who are most engaged with education,.i.e., the students, their parents, and the teachers should ALWAYS be a part of the choice for
the next superintendent. God rest the soul of Michelle King and may her memory be eternal!

Losing Dr. King so early in her career is extremely disheartening. She was a "homegirl" and knew her city and its citizens. Now we are being governed by strangers. We can only hope her legacy will continue and those who are following her realize that they have big shoes to fill and high expectations to met. May God Bless Her and Keep Her

Dr. Michelle King was such a caring and passionate leader. On her 3rd day as LAUSD Superintendent, she visited Lincoln HS to meet our student who had scored a Perfect Score in the AP Calculus AB exam (only 12 in the world had done it) and his teacher, who ended up being recognized as Teacher of the Year. On her way out she noticed our marquee was not working; she got us a brand new one. Just like that! She will always be in our hearts. Thank you Dr. King, keep smiling among the angels...

She inspired me to be and do my best...lead by example. Speechless when this breaking news came over my phone...so young, so beautiful, inside out. She represented our race in excellence, she loved all students and wanted us all to shine. May she rest peacefully knowing that she did it...and left a strong legacy. We will miss her bright smile...my husband and I have been praying for her family, our sincere heartfelt condolences. Peace and blessings to you.

My career with LAUSD began 20 years ago when Michelle King (at that time Assistant Principal of Hamilton High School) called me up to offer me my first teaching job. I will always remember that phone call. I could hear the chatter of her daughters' voices in the background. Michelle, you were always the essence of grace, integrity, and strength. I will always cherish the time I spent working with you. Your Hamilton family will miss you greatly!

How can this excellence be passed on?? Lausd needs to promote once again from within...as the educational experience expands and modifies due to technology, as our schools serve more minority and immigrant children than any other school district, as funding is now being reviewed to be updated - we need leaders who will work with outside and inside stakeholders to bring the best to Lausd kiddos...Dr.King led the way with her collaboration with our Charters..we need to reach deeper and problem solve. Dr. King had the vision...may we find it again...in her honor..

At Hamilton HS, she was the administrator who stulled me. It was the first time I was stulled by someone who knew the subject matter (Biology) and gave an honest review of my teaching practices. Her input and encouragement made me a better teacher. I'm so proud to have had her as my administrator, so happy to call her friend, and so sad to see her go. You will be missed, Michelle.

When I heard of the illness of Dr. King, and her subsequent demise to cancer, I was devastated. I, too, as held by so many others, was inspired by her as an impending African-American leader in education. She set the bar, raised the bar and crashed the bar with her impeccable ways, in which, she organized and LED for 33,000 practitioners on the ground and almost 500,000 scholars in our district. It breaks my heart that I never met her, but as a Black woman, her Light resonated with me, allowing me to know that the fortitude of faith and the adherence to integrity will showcase gifts assigned by God. Dr. King, though I will see you on the "other side", please know that you have left a GAPING HOLE, that has yet to be filled. We all love and adore you! Take your rest. I'll see you in the morning!
