My eyes are filled with tears but my heart is filled with joy as I know Dr. King is now in God's heaven and will look down on our LAUSD family and bestow abundant blessings for our students', families', and ALL district personnel for continued success. You are with us - I know it.
She is indeed the angel that will look over us!

You will be dearly missed, Dr. King! May the light of Christ shine on you
I met her when I was in the committee to select the District East Director. I loved the way she talked to me and the committee. She genuinely cared for our students.
God Bless you.
I never had the opportunity to meet her in person, but, I could see by her actions the power she had to do and give the best of her to others.
Thank you Dr King for all your hard work and dedication to our students, and thank you for allowing me to be a part of that community, as my wife also passed away of cancer in November of 2017, my seven children and I wouldn't have been able to make it through this rough time if I were not here working for LAUSD, ... I am forever and humbly grateful and thankful.
Thank You for all you have done !!! Dr. Michelle King, REST WELL LOVELY LADY
Thank you for this video of Dr. King. She will be remembered for the many wonderful things she did and she was.
You were the best to do it Dr. King! I want to thank you again for all your hard work and dedication to not only the Children but to the District as a whole. You and your legacy will forever live in our hearts. You are missed.
What a beautiful and inspirational leader. She will be dearly missed but always present in our hearts.
Beautiful video and tribute! Thank you for all that you did for LAUSD! Descansa en paz.
What a wonderful role model, Dr. Michelle King!!!! She was truly the best pick for Superintendent in 2017 She was... What many of us were, a student, a teacher, and a leader...She really embodied the characteristics that our district should honor when selecting a NEW Superintendent.
Why seek personnel outside of our district to fulfill the most important office in our Distirct. There are many of us that are ready to embrace this leadership challenge!! This job needs to go to someone like Dr. King... a student, a parent, a teacher, and a leader for the people!!
I echo your sentiments, Claudia! I participated in the search for the qualities of the new superintendent that the district held after the fiasco of Deasy when they held them at school auditoriums around our beautiful city. I knew they finally got it right when Dr. King took over. I was so saddened to hear that someone who was truly taking her job seriously to help all Los Angeles students had to retire. That same policy of coming back to those who are most engaged with education,.i.e., the students, their parents, and the teachers should ALWAYS be a part of the choice for
the next superintendent. God rest the soul of Michelle King and may her memory be eternal!
She was such a emotionally intelligent leader. I look back on the days when she was my VP and then principal very fondly. This video let the water works fly. She was such an inspiration to us all. Gone too soon.
A true trailblazer. Dr. King's professionalism, caring nature, compassion and dedication in support of student success will be missed but never forgotten.
Dr. King was a trailblazer ! Her legacy will continue...
Dr. King's Leadership, dedication, and inspiration will never be forgotten.
An incredible human being with a generosity of spirit and clear vision for our district. Dr. Michelle King, you are sorely missed by all.
Thank you for your service. You will be missed. Rest in paradise.
Thank you Dr. Michelle King for being you and for bringing out the best in our District. Godspeed to you and Rest in Peace.
Such a tragic loss. A life taken far too soon. Thoughts and prayers go out to her family.
Beautiful tribute to a beautiful person who did a lot for this district. She will be missed greatly
A great leader.
Losing Dr. King so early in her career is extremely disheartening. She was a "homegirl" and knew her city and its citizens. Now we are being governed by strangers. We can only hope her legacy will continue and those who are following her realize that they have big shoes to fill and high expectations to met. May God Bless Her and Keep Her
Ms. King was a very sweet person. I am so glad I had the opportunity to meet her. Rest in paradise.
Wanda Hunter Awesome Lady!!!!🙏🏾🙏🏾
Dr. King will always live on in our hearts and no one will ever be able to replace her. She was truly inspirational.

Amazing leader! She will be missed. Condolences to the family.
I like the background music, one of my favorites and beautiful video.
In my mind she is a SPECIAL PERSON. She sounds genuinely compassionate, caring, and unpretentious. Farewell and my condolences to your family and friends.
You were an inspiration to all of us. I worked with you as a parent, an administrator, a local district superintendent and the district superintendent. You are sorely missed. I'm thinking of your girls. Sending my condolences to your families.
Had the privilege to meet Dr. King and what a beautiful person she was. Every leader in LAUSD should reflect and learn from her legacy. She has left us too soon, she will be missed.
Dear Dr. King,
God bless you, and thank you for all you have done for all of the Students, Teachers, Administrators, Parents, Support Staff, and our many surrounding Communities throughout the LAUSD. You continue to be an inspiration to all of us!
I will always remember Dr. King and her smile. We definitely have an angel looking out for us.
My condolences to the family.
Dr. Michelle King was such a caring and passionate leader. On her 3rd day as LAUSD Superintendent, she visited Lincoln HS to meet our student who had scored a Perfect Score in the AP Calculus AB exam (only 12 in the world had done it) and his teacher, who ended up being recognized as Teacher of the Year. On her way out she noticed our marquee was not working; she got us a brand new one. Just like that! She will always be in our hearts. Thank you Dr. King, keep smiling among the angels...
She inspired me to be and do my best...lead by example. Speechless when this breaking news came over my phone...so young, so beautiful, inside out. She represented our race in excellence, she loved all students and wanted us all to shine. May she rest peacefully knowing that she did it...and left a strong legacy. We will miss her bright smile...my husband and I have been praying for her family, our sincere heartfelt condolences. Peace and blessings to you.
Tremendous example in such a short lifetime. High quality and inspiring example she has set for us ALL! Adults and our students alike. What a gift we have received.(smile)
We have all been so fortunate to have known her!
Dr. King was amazing, I’m so glad I had the opportunity to meet her ,
My career with LAUSD began 20 years ago when Michelle King (at that time Assistant Principal of Hamilton High School) called me up to offer me my first teaching job. I will always remember that phone call. I could hear the chatter of her daughters' voices in the background. Michelle, you were always the essence of grace, integrity, and strength. I will always cherish the time I spent working with you. Your Hamilton family will miss you greatly!
Traits of Truly Inspiring Leader.
RIP Wonderful Friend,we love you
Dr King's selflessness and the positive impact she made in the Lausd family will live on. Dr king, we missed you dearly, but will forever treasure, cherish, emulate your big, beautiful, and humble steps.
DOCTOR KING THANK YOU FOR DOING A WONDERFUL JOB AND THANK YOU FOR BEING A ROLE MODEL FOR MANY OF US FARE WELL AND MAY GOD CONTINUE TO BLESS YOUR DEDICATED WORK AND YOUR FAMILY GOOD BY DOCTOR KING YOU WILL ALWAYS BE IN MY HEART
I never met Dr. King in person, yet I feel like I've known her through my years at LAUSD. Her smile was always contagious and always will be when I think of her. It was always the first thing you would notice about her. Dr. King lived life with sincerity, integrity and joy. She will be sorely missed throughout the district and beyone.
Dr.King was an amazing women she worked hard to make sure all children from all ages had the schooling and the future that the deserve to have she was not only the superintendent of the second larges district but also like a mother and to make sure all her little one and older once to be fine human being and made sure they gave back to there community as there community gave to them.
Dr.King will be missed but i know she will be looking down at us from above to make sure her dream are being done.
I was really sad to learn of Dr. King's passing. I prayed that she would pull through. My condolences to her family and friends. She was a true role model and inspiration for all of us. Dr. King's dedication to LAUSD was unparalleled. Rest in eternal peace.
We were glad to have her visit our school in San Fernando. She brought her beautiful smile, words of encouragement and most of all, her presence. Thank you Dr. King and rest in God's paradise. You are an inspiration to all and your memory will live in those who were touched by you. Our sincere condolences to your entire family.
I’m glad I had the opportunity to meet and work with Dr. King in the early ’90s when she intervened on my behalf against an unfair principal at Sylmar High School (initials LC). I am proud to have known her and try to immolate her professional spirit and leadership in my life, and my role as a high school special education teacher. RIP Dr. King! You will be sorely missed…
How can this excellence be passed on?? Lausd needs to promote once again from within...as the educational experience expands and modifies due to technology, as our schools serve more minority and immigrant children than any other school district, as funding is now being reviewed to be updated - we need leaders who will work with outside and inside stakeholders to bring the best to Lausd kiddos...Dr.King led the way with her collaboration with our Charters..we need to reach deeper and problem solve. Dr. King had the vision...may we find it again...in her honor..
There was something very special about Dr. King, and though I had never met her personally in my thirty plus years with the district, yet, I believe her shining spirit has in some way touched us all.
She observed my class for less than 15 minutes, but her smile and her warm look at every positive act or word that was done or said, left us such a lasting impression and gave us such a positive energy that words can not explain. She knew what teaching was about and understood all the students and their needs. She is missed a lot by all of us.
Rest in peace, Dr. King. You will be missed.
Dr. King was the epitome of grace under fire. She led with distinction and never one to let position and titles go to her head. She was the embodiment of a servant-Leader and her influence will be sorely missed by all.
At Hamilton HS, she was the administrator who stulled me. It was the first time I was stulled by someone who knew the subject matter (Biology) and gave an honest review of my teaching practices. Her input and encouragement made me a better teacher. I'm so proud to have had her as my administrator, so happy to call her friend, and so sad to see her go. You will be missed, Michelle.
You will be remember for your kindness to those in need and that awesome way that you made everyone who came in contact with you feel, no matter your position!!
I am so glad that everyone is sending their love, comments and condolences! Dr. King has obviously made a tremendous impact on our school district and on those who knew her and those who did not know her personally. I saw her only briefly from a distance, when she visited my school (Peary M.S.), I saw her hug our principal before she left. Dr. King set an example of the love and gracious spirit that we all need to have. I too send her family my condolences and my prayers.
She was truly the epitome of great leadership! Your love, warmth, and caring heart will be greatly missed!! Thank you for reminding all of us what our profession is about: our kids!! My condolences to her family.
Dr. King, you were a REAL and TRUE LEADER! May your gentle and sweet soul rest in perfect peace. My condolences to her family.
Words can never express the admiration I had for you then and now. While working with students in the L.A District and beyond I will always honor what you stand for. Your presencein the district meant so much. Thank God for your service on Earth and I can only imaginethe assignments God has for you in heaven. Soar on until we meet again RIH
Her vision was awesome, her works spoke for itself. We need to continue her legacy by hiring and working with people who have the same vision.
You're sweet, sweet smile will be missed. You are a true leader, an inspirations, and you are such an "Angel" to be missed. May perpetual light shine on your way to our true home in heaven. My condolence to her family.
She is a blessed angel that completed her mission on this earth and has returned to the Father! You’ll be dearly missed Dr. Michelle King!
It was a pleasure working with you. You will be missed. Rest in Peace.
We will remember your legacy. You were young with a "great" responsibility when you took on the job as Superintendent at LAUSD. We will remember you and your contributions this February; and every year as a contributor to Black History.
Although, I never got to meet Dr. King personally, she was a woman to admire for the kind and humble person she was. She made a BIG difference in her leadership as the district superintendent. She will be missed tremendously. Rest in Peace.
Dr. King combined humility with wisdom and will be missed

In January I felt led to send her an email letting her know that I was thinking of and prayer for her. She responded and was so grateful. I will never forget her smile and the genuineness in her eyes. She is an inspiration to us all.
Your dedication to children is your legacy. Thank you for that. Thank you for believing in me. Job well done. Rest in heavenly peace
Cynthia Jackson, Retired Ops Coordinator ESC WestYour dedication to children is your legacy. Thank you for that. Thank you for believing in me. Job well done. Rest in heavenly peace
When I heard of the illness of Dr. King, and her subsequent demise to cancer, I was devastated. I, too, as held by so many others, was inspired by her as an impending African-American leader in education. She set the bar, raised the bar and crashed the bar with her impeccable ways, in which, she organized and LED for 33,000 practitioners on the ground and almost 500,000 scholars in our district. It breaks my heart that I never met her, but as a Black woman, her Light resonated with me, allowing me to know that the fortitude of faith and the adherence to integrity will showcase gifts assigned by God. Dr. King, though I will see you on the "other side", please know that you have left a GAPING HOLE, that has yet to be filled. We all love and adore you! Take your rest. I'll see you in the morning!
I am happy that I had the opportunity to have met Dr. King. She was an awesome leader and a nice person to talk to. She demonstrated poise and was a classy lady. I thank God for the example she showed to us as a professional worker. She will greatly be missed.
